As I continue running through the interview over and over again, here's what quite possibly defined me more than anything else. I was personable, funny, and professional, but above all else, I was a sweaty mess.
It rained yesterday. A lot. It rained as though it hadn't rained in months, which really isn't far off. Armed with my dusty umbrella and my jacket that I didn't need because it was 70 degrees, I was really trucking it down the street so I could make it a few minutes early. Which I did,. And that's fairly remarkable for me. By the time I got my umbrella and coat put away, I realized I was really hot. I was told it would be a few minutes so I figured I had time to cool down, but as soon as I was ushered into the interview room I suddenly became aware that not only was I hot from rushing to get there, but I was sweating. And not just a little. I could feel it everywhere. It was so fantastically uncomfortable to just sit there in my sweatyness, unable to wipe myself off or even throw up a quick ponytail. All I could think was, "no one's going to remember my name. They're just going to call me the sweaty girl." And as I'm trying to intelligently discuss their hypothetical challenges, I have these other hypothetical conversations happening in my head of what will be said when these people get together later to discuss all the applicants.
Interviewer 3: Oh, yeah, the sweaty girl. What was up with that? It wasn't even hot in here.
Interviewer 4: Maybe she has some sort of medical condition where her sweat glands don't act normal. Like maybe she just stays moist all the time.
Interviewer 2: That's ridiculous.
Interviewer 4: No it's not. I saw it on House once.
Interviewer 1: So, who did you guys like?
Interviewer 2: I don't know. No one really stood out that much. There was that one sweaty girl, but I don't even remember what she had to say. Just that she was sweaty.
Interviewer 1: Okay, we can't have a sweaty girl running around here. Just pick the next person in the pile.
End Scene.
